Hydrangeas & Purling Brook Falls

Today we felt the need to get out of the house and go exploring in our own backyard. In order for me to pick some of these gorgeous hydrangeas growing on the side of the road we drove half an hour to Springbrook which is located west of Robina & Mudgeeraba. Purling Brook Falls is well worth a visit this time of year. After all the rainfall these last few weeks the waterfalls were spectacular. There is a two hour walk that you can do which takes you right under the falls we have left that walk till next time.
I cannot grow these on the Coast as its just way too humid. But get up in the rain forest and hinterland where its cooler and these babies grow like weeds.
My husband warned me that they were everywhere so I went prepared with my garden scissors in hand.

The rain started to fall making the scenery amazing.
Prawn and salad lunch after lots of bush walking.
Close up encounter with a dragonfly. This was the chance for me to really test out my new camera.
So there you have it this is how we spent our New Year Day trying to walk off Christmas lunch.

Oh those exact hue of purpley blue hydrangeas remind me of my grandmother's home, next to the side gate, glorious!! After she passed away my grandfather had a bit of a brown thumb & let them go by the wayside. Sigh. How gorgeous is your family too?? Happy New Year & all the best for 2011. Love Posie

    Hi Sandy
Thank-you so much for stopping by the blog and your lovely comments about my retail venture. It certainly has been an exciting time and the response from everyone has been amazing.

I do love the hydrangeas you found and wish the ones in my garden more closely resembled these beauties!
    Best wishes

Gorgeous family shot! I think that photo of the hydrangeas with the old fence behind it is like a picture. I'm currently growing two hydrangeas which get the award for world's smallest and most pathetic specimens, but I'm hoping they improve this yr. What an absolute pleasure to find so many of these beautiful flowers. It all looks so romantic in that light and weather. Sonia x
