Slipcover Chair attempt

I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas Day and are well and truly in relaxation mode.  It’s still raining here in Queensland and from memory it hasn’t really stopped pouring since Christmas Eve. Not much you can do outdoors so this wet weather has inspired me to tackle somthing that I really haven’t done before. I mean I have covered an ottoman here there but not a full blown slipcover. This was going to be on my to do list for 2011 but it has come early.
I have simply used a linen table cloth for my fabric. If I was using a new fabric I would pre-wash to avoid shrinkage.  I have basically pinned it all to the existing chair, cut and sewn. I would not say this is a professional job at all but for my first attempt I would say its a lot better looking now than the before. I completed this in about 2 hours and cost me $5 for the table cloth which was a thrift store find.
Slipcovers can work out expensive so if your handy with a sewing machine I recommend giving it a go yourself.

Well done, your slip cover is great and what a good use of those linen tablecloths, I have several that aren't nice enough to use but still have possibilities.
    Hope the rain clears soon.
    Best wishes for 2011, Angela.

That's really good, and you've made it sound so simple.
The fabric is great. I've always admired people who could do this. I can pin cut and sew. Now I just need the right chair. Runs off to search……

I like slipcover, they are so practical to wash and change, and you can armonize the fabric with all the other furniture without change anything.
    Very good job, darling friend!!
Hope you are having wonderful days!

Looks good Sandy! There's nothing like sitting at the sewing machine when it's pouring outside. I would like to try this on my dining room chairs. Hopefully the rain will stop soon. We've been deluged up this way! ;)Sharyne

Nice job on your first slipcover. A great idea to use a thrifted cloth too. I'm sooooo fed up with this rain, we're going stir crazy!

Your first one? Really???? It looks great..and you did a wonderful job. I think fear of the unknown is what stops us from trying something new, don't you? I love that you used an old tablecloth..at least if it hadn't of worked out you could have cut it up into napkins!;>) Onwards! I'll be sending you a sofa in the mail…please try to find some bargain priced linens, will you?;>) Hugs- Diana

    Sandy:
That is a very well done slipcover, maybe you should hang up the paintbrush and move onto slipcovers??!!
