Country Home Ideas Magazine Vol 5 No 5 – A Trip Down Memory Lane

Thought I would share some images of one of my previous homes that was featured in Country Home Ideas Magazine a few years ago. Funny how my taste has changed since these photos were taken. I have sold lots of these pieces but there are quite a few things that I have kept. Gone are a lot of the floral items and I now tend to just have more white. The green cupboard there in the corner is still with me and my rachel ashwell curtains have followed me everywhere.  I believe that any home can be transformed into something beautiful it all depends a lot on the accessories and the placing of your pieces. All my homes have been quite modern on the outside but step inside and you will find many of my pieces purchased from auctions, markets, car boot sales etc. I have been thrifting for over ten years now and the excitement just seems to bet better and better.
This gorgeous large leadlight kitchen dresser I still have If anyone is interested I am going to sell it.
The raggy quilt I made a few years ago with all rachel ashwell fabrics.
My sons vintage black single wrought iron bed is also going to be sold. Email me if your interested.
The kitchen table I still have but it has seen lots of different looks since.
Chandeliers I still have lots of and if anyone is looking for one I would be happy to offload a few.
Hope you have enjoyed these images from a few years ago. It’s great to go back and see what I have kept and what pieces I have moved on.  One thing hasn’t changed and that is my love for furniture. As the saying goes “if there’s a place in your heart there’s a place in your home”. I have never been the type to ponder over a piece if I like it I buy it – work out where to put it later

Hi Sandy, I have that CHI issue, actually I have them all! I remember seeing your house (but I didn't know it was your house) and thinking how beautiful! It's funny how our tastes change over time.. mine was more into blue and terracotta before I moved here but now am all into shabby chic as you know! I love your house now Sandy but I still love it how it was before.. I suppose we all need a change every now and then! I'm not sure when or if I will change my style, not for a while I don't think, as I am still lovin' it… take care, Maryann

I think it would be just as pretty today as it was back then. There is no read "faddishness" to romance..and that's how those pictures make me feel-like it was a home of sweet romance. Diana

those images are just stunning, Sandy…not only has your influence made me want to paint all my furniture white, now I am seriosuly considering painting my walls white too 🙂 That second to last photo, is that one of those applique's I can see? Looks great! And the raggy quilt, that had caught my eye when I first looked at these pictures…I didn't realise you had made it yourself, it is beautiful. I made one for my niece a few years ago and always meant to make more…now you have inspired me to do that, too!

Hi Sandy, I can remember standing on my footpath and pouring over these pages with you years ago when you purchased I think it was a leadlight art deco sideboard…do you remember. I totally was in awe of how beautiful everything was. It is funny how our tastes change. Of coarse I tend not to keep much now which alot of people find strange. I think it is the attention to detail and the effortlessness that makes all your homes so special, cheers Katherine

Just beautiful Sandy, I sighed very happily when I looked at your pictures. I love the quilt, chandy's and the leaded glass piece of furniture. Oh, and also the Rachel Ashwell curtains. Going from prim to shabby, the pictures have helped me so much! Thanks for sharing!

I totally agree with you that if you love a piece of furniture, or art, or other item for your home, you will find room for it–maybe not right away, but eventually the perfect place in your home will open up. Enjoyed the look back at they way things were in your home a few years ago — lovely. Your blog is an inspiration and a joy to visit.
