If your a local Queenslander I'm sure your all shocked at the amount of rain we have received these last few days. 21 inches of rain within six days and still pouring down. Local low lying roads have flooded which made it impossible for my kids to get to school. I hope we see a break in the rain soon.

Now onto some pretty things.

A little white table of mine got a makeover through the week

Some gorgeous white ironstone.

I have started a small collection of vintage clocks and found another white one today.

A sweet little white cane basket.

Sadly this peacock chair is not mine I am going to be painting this white for a friend of mine.

These roses were soaked from the rain but made it into the house late today.

I have lots of new pieces almost finished and ready to share including a gorgeous dining table and six chairs.

Desk Makeover

One item of furniture that I get loads of requests for would have to be office desks. A desk depending on your required size should always be deep enough to accommodate your computer, printer and of course all your stationary. At least one drawer or many drawers to hold all your paperwork.

This is a great shaped desk with lots of curves.

A vintage dressform I picked up last week, boy are these getting hard to find. This one definetly got my heart racing.

A gorgeous crown sitting on top of an old chippy pigeon hole crate.

This desk has sold already and is off to its new home today.

Flashback 2011 and a Giveaway

When you look back on all the pieces I have made over through the year it really is quite exhausting, but loads of fun. Here is just a snippet of a few of my favorite pieces.

Just got back from a lovely few days away and now have lots to do around the house. I am giving my white floors a fresh coat of paint today and will bring you some new makeovers very soon.

I am celebrating one year of having my shops space at the Antique Centre and would like to giveaway this cute little side table to one lucky blogger that has followed be through the year. Only local Queensland or nearby NSW residents would be eligible to enter as the item would need to be collected. But thank you to all my overseas and interstate followers that have continued to read my blog.

Sweet Dresser Makeover

This piece I made over for my sister. It has been sitting in her bedroom all dark and unnoticed for months. Painted white and lots of sanding to bring the timber through. I think she is going to love the new look.

Bench Seat

The weather is so hot here today that I have snuck inside to cool down in the airconditioning. I wanted to show you this awesome bench seat I have just finished. Not only does the cross back timber look stylish but the piece is also very functional.

Storage and plenty of it. Would be handy to have this piece at your Entry or in your hallway. Hide away all those shoes, boots and even big enough for hats, skateboards or magazines.

This mirror is my favorite find of the week, I just love it.

A Good Start to 2012

Happy 2012 to you all I hope it brings a year of great success and good health.

I thought I would show you my first little makeover to kick off 2012.
My Bedroom was well and truly due for a little makeover. So over Christmas I changed a few pieces around also painted the bed. The bed was an off white and has driven me crazy since I purchased it so now it's all fresh and white.

I have gone with fresh white and lots of blue accents. I recovered the lamp shade and made the new blue cushions.

The hydranges are gorgeous and picked from the roadside at Springbrook Falls. We visit the falls every News Year Day and they are literally growing everywhere this time of year.
The sweet side table with turned legs has been stripped and I have left it as is for now, enjoying the original colors popping through.

Hoping you all had a wonderful Christmas.

Today I'm enjoying being at home and photographing some new finds to share with you all.

I found this huge basket at the thrift store just before Christmas and instantly thought of a million things to put in it. I was cleaning out the spare room wardrobe today and found a yo yo quilt my nana made years ago. Lots of color and such gorgeous vintage fabrics.

I painted up this bistro setting all ready for a beachside balcony.

Christmas 2011

I hope your all having a lovely Christmas Eve. I have been wrapping some last minute presents along with preparing food for tomorrow. In our little community here at Bonogin we have a visit every year from Santa in the fire truck. The kids think its great and its a wonderful opportunity to catch up and even meet some new neighbours.

Wanted to show you my latest find - an awesome large blue and white ginger jar - how gorgeous it is.

I have put the paint brush down for a few days and decided to do some sewing and crafting today.

I recovered these large lamps shades in some lovely blue and white fabric I picked up at the thrift store.

My daughter is quite the chef in the house and made this awesome Ginger Bread House. We have decided that she must make one every year now - didn't she do a fabulous job.

White Farmhouse Table

I just can't get enough of these old farmhouse tables. This one was originally a light pine and often I try and keep the tops unpainted. But today it went all white and I'm so pleased with the look.

I painted the chairs to match and upholstered the seats in a blue and white ticking.

French Console

Time is getting away as you would all know and Christmas is just around the corner. Today I spent the day doing my final deliveries of painted furniture for some lovely customers. I have been painting like you wouldn't believe and trying to keep ahead of the demand for this time of the year.

I bought this lovely piece up into the house to photograph and somehow I think it might stay there for a little while. When I purchased this piece it was purple and gold. If only the previous owner could see it now.

I have started collecting vintage clocks and this is my latest find.

Discarded old mantle off a dresser gets a new lease of life.

I re-covered these lamps only to realize that I had the pattern up the wrong way on one of them for those of you that noticed.

Hope your all surviving the silly season and remember that the Woolloongabba Antique Centre is open late tomorrow night for Christmas trading.

I also wanted to let the locals know that I have a divine french king single timber bed that is available to purchase. Turquoise Cupboard & Family Pics

I've been wanting to paint something turquoise for a while now, so here is a cute little gentleman's wardrobe that I finished yesterday.

Love how this one has very wide drawers which makes for a great storage piece.

The gardens at the Resort are amazing.

A Bit about the company and good luck.

SEAWICKS SOY candles are hand poured on the coast of Maine. Each fragrance has been selected to invoke memories of

times shared with family and friends. From the scents of lilacs hugging our summer cottages to 5' o clock happy hour on the front porch.

Six years ago my husband and I purchased a 1920's cottage (Beneath the Pines) in the small town of Edgecomb, Maine; a town where time seems to stand still. With glimpses of the water, the sound of lobster boats pulling their traps and the scent of sea, we knew we finally found our home.

The seasons changed and winter came. Frozen pipes and power outages became normal. During those long winter nights, we sat by the flickering light and reminisced of summers passed. We burned a lot of candles that winter but longed for the scent of the coast.

With that in mind, "SEAWICKS" was born. Our scents are a direct reflection of life on the coast. We take pride in pouring all of our candles by hand. We currently offer six scents and will be adding another four to the line in Fall.

Thank god its Friday I hear you all saying, well I couldn't agree more. The closer Christmas draws upon us the busier our lives seem to excelate.

The humidity here is making things uncomfortable and the more rain we seem to get the steamier things become.

But we wouldn't have it any other way would we?

Just a few pics of the lovely french light grey drawers I made over through the week. Gorgeous scrolls on top and finished off with some sweet little round crystal knobs.

Country or Beachy Wardrobe

I would describe this wardrobe as Beachy or Country as I could see it in either styles of decorating. Sometimes when you buy pieces to make over you have to sleep on it for a few nights until you can decide on the look your wanting to achieve. This was not the case with this piece. As soon as I saw it I knew exactly how it would end up looking and thankfully this is it.

Painted white panels are lots of sanding so the timber pops through.

Forgot to take a photo of the inside but it has hanging on the left and heaps of drawers of the right, a very functional piece.

A new lamp shade I re-covered.

Round crystal knobs to replace the old metal pulls.

These candle holders have the perfect amount of rust on them.

Would suit any part of the home, could be used in the bedroom, laundry, kitchen or even holding all your crafts.

Industrial Vibe Happening Around Here

This post it all about these wonderful Industrial Vintage Pieces I have collected these last couple of weeks.

You will not help but notice this huge Industrial Light Fitting. It's perfect because it has an amazing long lead and can be hung on the ceiling in any room, just plugs in, no wiring necessary.

Gorgeous old silky oak desk I made over this week teamed up with a metal vintage office chair.

The old map of Australia has been sitting in my shed for years. I had the old frame from a recent deceased estate so I played around with it this morning and this was what I came up with.

The yellow fan was being sold at a recent fete for $1. I have never used yellow in my home but today is a first.

Another amazing old vintage standard light that is extremely heavy and well made. I was really excited when I found this piece.

I actually got the sewing machine out this week and made myself up some new cushions. Lots of ticking and blues and whites.

Gorgeous old slats on top all re-stained and waxed.

The desk in numbered and would have been made locally in Brisbane at some point.

You may remember this piece from here back in March. Well I did what I was suppose to do and lived with it for six months. Over the last two weeks I have slowly hand painted this piece white and today I'm pleased to say its all finished. Some of you are going to scream at me I'm sure but as the heading goes I make no apologies for painting it white and I'm so pleased that I did. The pieces inside have become more noticeable and do not get lost in the pine.

It needed new hardware and some mesh on the sides.

These Hydranges are real and ready to be planted.

How Sweet It Is

I finally bought this little beauty up to the house today so show her off.

Funny thing was I almost walked straight past it. I wondered over, opened the doors and then it was love at first sight.

I was told by the sweet old man that sold it to me that it originated from the Surfers Paradise Post Office, as you can see from the sticky labels inside.

This blue and white bowl is made in Portugal and was also a sweet find this week.

Armoire

Finding these Armoire's can be a real challenge as they are few and far between. I was particulary impressed with the amount of floral detail on this one and the petite size of it, not too big and not too small. My other Armoire's are very large and take two people to move around but this one is a perfect size.

A sweet little drawer at the bottom that I have yet to put knobs on. Think I will do away with the black pull as well and add a crystal one.

Glass front, heaps of shelving all painted inside ready for displaying beautiful treasures.

This is the Before, I'm pleased I painted it white now.

Gingham Delight

I have to deliver this gorgeous wing back chair today for a lovely client of mine. Ange did a great job on the upholstery and I painted the timber for a fresh new look.

I have been wanting to do another set of Paris drawers for ages but like everything it all takes time.

When I found these drawers they were that dirty I literally had to hose them down.

What a difference a day makes ha.

I love this old original venetian mirror.

Meat Safe Delight

Today I'm showing off my new find. This original old meat safe was in quite a state when I picked her out of the crowd. Dirty, dusty and full of mouse poo it has come along way with a good clean and wax.

I just added some crystal knobs to dress it up and I think it looks perfect just how it is.

This gorgeous grey ceramic planter was just the right piece to place on top.

I'm struggling at the moment.

We just got back from a night away and I was very excited to show you this shabby chippy desk I picked up on my travels. All white and chippy with lots of french looking appliques to dress it up. Love it when you find a piece that has loads of character.

I have painted the inside back timber boards in a gorgeous fresh blue. Love the contrast with the white.

A great fresh piece to place anywhere in the home. Very narrow so doesn't take up a lot of room but holds heaps of goodies.

It's so nice to see the sun shining today after a huge day of thunderstorms and lots of rain.

On my list of finds recently was a sunburst mirror and this week I was fortunate enough to find one.

This one is made from metal and is really heavy and well made. They make such an statement on the wall either on their own or grouped together.

I am in love with this silver plated decorative tray all tarnished and shabby.

Another week flown by I can't believe the kids are in their last term of school.

This is the second time this week I have re-stocked many pieces were snapped up early in the week.

The cute timber bistro table & chairs was looking very nice on my deck but you can't keep it all.

I seem to have accumulated a supply of pedestal dining tables and this is the second one I have had to makeover this week.

This Week's Happenings

Another busy week gone by during the school holidays.

First up I found these gorgeous french looking nest of two tables.

I love the detail under the glass and I will most likely give them a light coat of paint at some point.

I was decorating with lots of Ashwell fabrics today so snapped a picture of the dining table.

Some new pieces to the shop this week.

We also did lots of boating through the week and caught our dinner for the night. Nothing better than fresh fish.

Farmhouse Trestle Table

When I found this table last week I had the perfect image of teaming it up with a set of six rattan chairs that I already had in my shed. These chairs were meant for a more french style table that I am in the process of doing up but I just think this style of more formal chairs with a country table works just perfectly. The table is made from Tasmanian hardwood and is a gorgeous piece.

Would make a great statement in a dining room with a large crystal chandelier above.

The chairs were put in the too hard basket for over a year but then Ange came to the rescue and recovered the chairs pads for me in this gorgeous linen fabric.

You can see to the left of the dining table is a gorgeous french Armoire that I haven't had time to make over yet.

The table top has been sanded and sealed with the base painted white.

The table is huge and could easily be an eight seater if required.

These were the chairs before they got new linen covers.

Lamp Makeover

I found this sweet blue and white ginger jar style lamp base at the thrift store during the week but instead of putting this one into my store I decided I would make over a shade and keep it.

I actually didn't have a lot of confidence that it would turn out how I wanted so I didn't even bother taking a before shot of the shade. It was lime green and not the best to look at so I recovered it with this gorgeous pink and white candy stripe fabric.

I put a lovely pink braid at the base and a vintage trim around the top to finish it off.

A huge pile of sheet music that I found on my travels this week some dated from the 1940's.

I loved the look of the lamp so I decided to use the same fabric on another project which I hope to show you later in the week.

Wanted to show you this amazing map of the world print I picked up while we were away on the weekend. Must have a thing for maps at the moment because this one is huge and will look amazing in a child's bedroom or office.

Old baseballs or softballs I couldn't resist buying these as they look great grouped together in this bowl.

I was the lucky winner of the most gorgeous giveaway last week. Sharnel Dollar from http://mylife-myloves.blogspot.com/ gave away this beautiful Rosanna Bowles white refined porcelain square footed bowl. The bowl can be used for anything and at the moment its holding all my new soaps.

Rosanna has also released a new book "Coming Home" which was also included in the giveaway.

Weekly Finds

We are currently enjoying some beautiful weather and family time on the Sunshine Coast this weekend but I quickly wanted to show you a few goodies that I found this week.

Old Vintage Books, love the color of them.

I bought the old vintage flower press for my husband believe it or not. He is studying Horticulture and needed the press for an assignment.

This old vintage sideboard just melted my heart, I love how old and chippy the paint work is. This one stays as is no need to paint.

A world globe lamp. With many years of thrifting under my belt I can honestly say that I have never come across a globe lamp before. This one is Solid American Oak and is just divine turned on at night.

Boys Desk

The start of the week is always busy which usually sees me putting in six hours of painting each day. One of the pieces finished yesterday was this sweet little vintage desk which is just perfect for the little man of the house. I'm calling it a boys desk as its a little on the masculine side but I'm sure any little girl would love it too.

Painted white base with chalkboard top it's going to be hard to get this one past my son.

Sunday Goodies

Today is a day we are getting stuck into the garden and I have also been sorting out some of my china and bit and pieces. Seems that I have been drawn to plenty of pink lately.

I was thrilled to find this baby flamingo last week, I already had the mother and now she has her baby.

Lovely shade of pink vintage lamp shades.

Some sweet pink patchwork pillowcases were a find at the markets today.
Off to the garden and work on a country style dining table and chairs, can't wait to show you them.

An Antique Timber Desk

Every now and then I like to treat myself to a piece that I know is going to be a keeper, well at least for a little while anyway.

I found this gorgeous timber antique desk at the thrift store yes that's true. I knew it was going to be on the expensive side as most thrift stores seem to be overpriced these days. But it must of been my lucky day and in the car it went.

I love the wide timber panels, it has such character don't you think?

Gorgeous over-sized pigeon hole cabinet that I have just finished painting white.

Now I will just have to find the perfect spot for it.

Paint Me White Today

Well it feels like a summer day here today a real shorts and t-shirt kinda day.

Just re-stocked my space at the Woolloongabba Antique Centre and thought you might like to take a peek.

Loads of drawers, blackboards and a decorative shell hanging.

Painted Concrete Floors

Since the issue of the latest Country Collections Magazine I have been getting lots of questions over my white floors. So thought I would dedicate this post to answering some of your questions.

Firstly yes my floors are painted White.

My floors are concrete.

We moved into the house and my biggest hate was obviously the blue carpet in the main lounge area and the master bedroom. I put up with this for about four weeks from memory and once the kids had gone to their grandparents for the week I knew it was the right time. My husband and I were sitting at the dinner table looking into this room and I said to him "lets get this carpet up now" before I have to spend one more day looking at it. So with little effort at all the carpet came up quite easily.

I filled the smooth edge holes with filler and made sure the concrete was cleaned thoroughly and the holes were sanded.

I did spend quite a few weeks researching the best product for me and found that in "Berger" Jet Dry Satin.

I wanted a water based product one with quick and easy clean up.

Berger Jet Dry does exactly that dries quickly.

I applied the paint with a roller and extension pole which is less stress on your back.

I initially purchased 10 litres but have since bought another ten for re-coating when needed.

I love the final look and yes it does feel like Satin to walk on.

These floors have been painted over two years now and I have touched them up probably twice.

I use this room for lots of photo shoots so I drag heaps of heavy furniture over these floors.

Yes they do scratch and do get dirty. But like any carpet instead of calling in the steam cleaner I just retouch with a roller and they look like new.

The floors are a tad cold over winter but that's where I introduce a few throw rugs.

We have extremely beautiful weather all year round which makes the floors practicle for me.

Painted white floors are not for everyone they are high maintenance but mostly I bring that upon myself. I'm sure if you just painted them and were very careful the scratching would be minimal.

I do use a steam mop over the top of them and that works perfect.

Before

I'm sure there are many other products out there but this product worked best for me.

You can buy many marine style paints and even just enamel paints that would give you the same look but I wanted water based.

I did not need to apply a sealer over the top just applied two generous coats and re-apply as needed.

The floors are easy to live with and compliment all styles of furniture.

If you have some ugly carpet in your home with concrete underneath you may just want to give it a go. I would have preferred lovely floorboards under there but my home is only 9 years old so I was not that lucky.

So there you have it, a quick, inexpensive and easy transformation that makes a huge difference to the appearance of my lounge and bedroom.

Finds for the week

I am popping in today to share some finds that I scored throughout the week.

The grey desk/sideboard was once a dressing table but I preferred it without the mirror. It got a coat of french grey paint and is now ready for a new home.

Pretty much all you see are recent finds, the mirror, the lamp base, vintage paperwork tray, the divine baskets Oh I love those, great for storing your mags and crafts.

Farmhouse Dining Table with Grey Chairs

I love making over dining tables and seeing them come alive with a new coat of paint and stain. I have teamed the white table with some painted grey timber chairs which have been distressed so the timber underneath pops through.

This piece will be available at the Woolloongabba Antique Centre this week.

Check out my tuffed red chair. I call it my Santa Claus chair as it reminds me of a chair that you would see Santa sitting in at the Shopping Centre come Christmas time.

Numbered Wardrobe

I have been totally inspired by Atlanta Bartlett recently and when I was ready to make over this wardrobe yesterday I knew I wanted it rustic and to resemble an old farmhouse piece. The timber was already distressed it was just a matter of bringing all that character through once painted.

The cute timber Rosewood clock was made over also with a french grey paint, cleaned up and a battery added and wella it goes.

My french chair that Ange covered for me recently.

I love adding my signature numbers on large pieces and believe it finishes the wardrobe off beautifully.

Plenty of hanging and cupboard space inside. Going to be hard to part with this piece.

Rustic Cupboard & Some Winners

Now we are having bucket loads of rain this week, which is great for the tanks but not so great when your trying to get pieces dry. I did finish this sweet little cupboard which has been transformed with a coat of french grey paint and heavily sanded to look old and rustic.

Sweet Finds

I picked these roses today from my garden and have not edited them at all this is their true color - just the most beautiful shade of pink.

Some market finds - a Marcs white t-shirt, vintage coat hangers and a lovely wooden necklace.

Lovely tall white pitcher filled with plenty of white roses.

These vintage metal wall sconces were a great find, already white they are going to look amazing in my bathroom either side of a large vintage mirror.

Cake plates in beautiful pastel colors.

I did score some nice goodies this week including the old timber pigeon hole cabinet, a lovely white glass door cupboard and some gorgeous baskets.

French Drawer Makeover

This French tallboy is just that very tall and quite spectacular so large with so many uses.

Gorgeous french detailing at the front and sides.

Painted in a french grey and sanded so the original colour underneath pops through.

When I say so many uses it has a secret cupboard. You see the top four drawers are not drawers at all but a large cupboard with shelving inside, a great spot to store your perfumes, jewelry and bedside trinkets.

The Folk-Art Just Had To Go

Most of you did agree that folk art is a thing of the past so I didn't really hesitate to paint it. Although I did appreciate the art work seeing this all painted in a french grey is much more suited for today's interiors.

The green undertones and painted swirls actually helped with the sanding process and make the piece that more interesting. I didn't want to completely cover them with paint as I like them popping through.

How much folkart is too much

I picked up this gorgeous little desk recently and I must say that it really has me stumped. Not normally my usual thing but I was more attracted to the shape of the desk rather than the pattern on it.

Someone has gone to a lot of trouble to paint the most beautiful flowers and scrolls and not a novice job by any means its really well done and beautiful.

I would normally paint over this in a heart beat but I think I'm going to have to leave this as is. Well for the moment anyway.

Maybe if I just give it a good sand and tone down those bright flowers.

What do you all think? Is this just way over the top and needs to be painted or appreciate the artist in someone and leave it alone.

It's not very often I find porthole style mirrors and they make a great statement in any room.

This one is quite large and just needed a few coats of white paint to cover up the original gold colour.

Table Makeover & Some Birthday Snaps

Thank-you all for the lovely birthday wishes. Turning 40 is one of those things that you either embrace or tend not to tell people. I guess to me its just a number and as the saying goes your only as old as you feel. Some days we all feel older but the important thing is "to have a dream". My dream is to create beautiful furniture.

I have just completed a drop leaf timber table for a client that was looking for a table to have on hand when extra guests arrive for dinner. The drop side table seemed appropriate and functional given that it takes up less space once the sides are folded down.

The trick was getting the top to resemble a Hamptons Style table.

The base of the table was painted in an off white and the top completely sanded and re-stained.

You would never know it was the same table.

Cupboard Makeover

I have been getting stuck into the painting this week which is nothing that new I guess. I quickly bought this little cupboard up from the house to show you before it got taken to the store.

Painted a snow white with grey beading its a little cutie to put anywhere in the home.
Today is my 40th birthday so I plan to put tools down and enjoy the day. I also had great fun meeting Karen from Restyled Vintage yesterday who flew over to Australia from NZ for her 40th birthday too.
Can't believe that big number came around so quickly - goes to show that life does go way too quick.

These are my miniature pom poms that I have been making all night for a special order. I have never made them as small only 10cm but how gorgeous are they. They look like a peonie dont you think?

French Drawers

These drawers are now available in my store at the Woolloongabba Antique Centre. I did the makeover a few weeks ago now but the thought of parting with them was a bit hard. I really wanted to do something fun and out of the ordinary with them. I had been inspired by another makeover in blogland where they had incorporated french lettering on the drawers so I thought I would attempt a Paris Flower Market theme myself. Not convinced that they are exactly what I had in mind if only I could master beautiful french lettering. But never the less I think they are pretty cool and will stand out from the crowd.

Melbourne really turned on the cold weather and even though I was born in Victoria and spent the first 20 years of my life there I always tend to forget just how cold it can be. I love visiting and catching up with family and friends but coming home to sunny Queensland was a huge relief.
I did lots of shopping and have some great items that will be making their way to the Woolloongabba Antique Centre this week.

Today I finished off this rustic hall table with turned legs. I wanted a really aged look and I'm pretty sure I have achieved this here.

Check out these vintage glasses that my nana gave me. They were her brothers and well over 100 years old.

We drove around Melbourne with an hour to spare before our flight and found the four cottages that our currently on The Block.

Whow how impressive they look now.

Sadly Katrina wasn't there the day we visited but they have all done an amazing job.
