Latest Find & First Makeover for 2011

My first makeover for 2011 is finally finished, but its going to be hard for me to outdo this piece as it was something I was never expecting to find.
“A gorgeous french bed”
Two days before Christmas I was contacted by a client to rent his house as they were moving to Toowoomba. I really had to get it advertised asap and made an appointment to photograph the house. Imagine my surprise when I went in one of the bedrooms and there was this beauty sitting there. She wasn’t alone and accompanying her was a magnificent chest of drawers and two bedside tables -I will share them at a later date.
I asked the owner was the furniture for sale and his reply was “yes please take it off my hands”.  The thrill of a great find does get my adrenalin pumping, crazy I know but I’m sure many of you can relate.  We agreed on a price and home they came.

I keep changing the pillows, lamps and besides to get the look I wanted.

 Before

This was after I had painted it but the headboard still wasn’t doing it for me. The original bedhead was covered in a light brown velvet but it needed to be modernised.

So 2011 was going to be the year for trying new things so I turned my hand to upholstering the headboard myself. I removed all 20 odd buttons and re-covered them in a gorgeous linen. I used my hot glue gun and cut out small circles then gently folded them over gluing into place. I then cut a pattern out for the actual headboard and used my staple gun to secure the fabric. After that I just pushed the buttons back into place.

The bed in only a double so sadly it will not be making its way into my room but it’s such a great bed for my kids or visitors.

This venetian mirror was a market find.

So there you have it, this is the piece that I have been working on for the last couple of weeks.

I would like to say how lucky you are ,but I really think we make our own luck from hard work ,first of all you went out before Christmas when everyone else was winding down ,then you asked for the bed ,and then you spent the last few weeks painting and restoring it,yes very 'lucky'.
Anyway it is beautiful and I think the all white pillows are just perfect!
