Sweet Dresser

My sister picked this dresser up for me that was in desperate need of a makeover. It looked like someone had attempted to sand the top but never got around to finishing it. There was a mirror attached but unfortunately that was broken.

I used my sander to completely remove the top layer of stain and took it back to bare timber before applying a fresh coat of antique walnut stain.

I already had these ceramic white knobs from another piece that I found through the week.

Hope your all having a good weekend. Our weather today was perfect so I managed to spend the morning painting so have quite a few pieces to reveal over the next few days.

Wardrobe Completed

In between the showers of rain this week and getting home late from work I have managed to finish off the wardrobe.  Painted white with grey panelling something was missing from this piece and it was looking far too plain. So I painted on some number stencils for a bit of fun.

Heaps of drawers and hanging space inside makes for a very versatile little piece.

I had this wardrobe in my daughters room for over a year. She came home last night and said "love the wardrobe mum where did you get that from".  Oh she said thats right I remember it now.

Some Old Photos Re-Visited & My White Floors

Well its been six months now since I ripped up the old carpet and painted my concrete floors white. What sort of flooring to have in your home in sometimes not an easy choice. Ripping the carpet uf for me was an easy one as I could not live with the current blue carpet.  But deciding what to put down instead - well that was something I could not decide on straight away. So in our lovely Queensland climate I opted for painting the concrete white. They are still going strong but have marked over time. I continually drag furniture across them so its no surprise that there are quite a few sctraches. I did only give them two light coats in the first place so they really could do with another coat just to fresh'n them up. Overall very easy to maintain with a vacuum and a steam mop.

I would love to eventually have floor boards in here but for now the concrete is very child & pet friendly and if there is a spill or a scratch its nothing that can't be fixed.

I have sent all my rugs off to the cleaned so are looking forward to putting a nice rug back down here over the winter nights.

I am making progress on my little wardrobe makeover this week and hope to reveal the final look as soon as it stops raining.  I am also making over a lovely sideboard/desk which is looking gorgeous.

French Sofa Story

Thanks for all your ideas and comments on my front door. I loved the thought of painting it black with all the black trim I have around the home but every time I go out there to get ideas I change my mind.  I will be sure to post the final look here.

Now I thought I would share some more photos of my lovely french sofa. Many of you might have seen this before but it would have to be one of my most favourite finds.

I purchased this over three years ago and rescued it from being tossed at the tip.

I saw it and couldn't believe my eyes. Now I did leave it there, went home and thought about it and phoned the guy up and told him to put it aside for me. I mean what was I thinking leaving it there.

Some white denim and a good upholstery job later this is the end result. Upholstery NOT done by me but a little old man that does a lovely job.

Not sure if its a reproduction or an original but going by this old fabric I would say its an old piece for sure.

My New Front Door

My new door.

Firstly thankyou all for your lovely birthday wishes. I had a great day and it was made even better with a message from you all.

There is something to be said about a good looking font door. That first impression of your home is everything I believe. I currently have a weathered front door that is slowly rotting away and badly needs replacing. What a pleasant surprise when my dad bought this beauty home from the second hand yard for a bargain buy of $30.00

This door is solid as a rock and took two men to lift it.

These eight flower panels all seem to be hand carved each one is slightly different from the other.

Now I have to decide what colour to paint it. I would love to be bold and have a bright red front door as the one below but don't think I am that brave. Maybe a soft grey or even just a fresh coat of cream or white. I have lots of black trim around my windows so maybe even a satin black with the flowers all slightly sanded. What do you all think?

A Mid Week Find and My Latest Project

Well its my birthday today and although I did have to work I did find some time this afternoon to do a spot of thrifting.  Check out this lovely china cabinet with glass back and shelving.

This is my latest project that I thought I would share with you all. I am currently working on this lovely little gentlemans wardrobe. I was going to stain it as the silky oak is gorgeous but then I had these visions of it being white and painting the front panels a pale blue.  Oh decisions decisions!!

I have moved all my painting gear down to my shed. This shed is normally chockers full of furniture but I have sold quite a bit so are enjoying this new painting space.

A Beachy Sofa

Firstly I wanted to thankyou all for your lovely comments on my thrift finds. Seems like you all agree with me that those crystal knobs were the find of the year.

I purchased a new sofa through the week, I mean how could I pass is up. When I say new I mean second hand but new for me. It was only purchased six months ago and has hardly been used. Best part was she had a matching navy blue one as well so that came home with me too. Lovely blue and white striped slipcovers create such a relaxed look. I don't know if this one is a keeper or not but for now it's very comfortable and looks lovely in my lounge.

If you haven't been over to Laura from http://summerhouselc.blogspot.com/ you really need to. Laura is a very kind hearted girl and one very clever one at that. She makes these adorable cushions and I think it goes lovely on this new sofa. Check out Laura's etsy shops if haven't already. Think I need to purchase some more of these beauties.

I was the lucky winner of this fabulous vintage suitcase from Katherine. I had every intention of painting it white but couldn't bring myself to do it. Love the initials on the top of the case, ideal for magazines, vintage linens and loads more.

It has been a beautiful weekend weather wise and I hope you all did something special. My parents took my kids out for the day so my husband and I actually got to go out for lunch together just the two of us. Lunch at the surf club overlooking the ocean it was just beautiful.
