My New Front Door

My new door.
Firstly thankyou all for your lovely birthday wishes. I had a great day and it was made even better with a message from you all.
There is something to be said about a good looking font door. That first impression of your home is everything I believe. I currently have a weathered front door that is slowly rotting away and badly needs replacing. What a pleasant surprise when my dad bought this beauty home from the second hand yard for a bargain buy of $30.00
This door is solid as a rock and took two men to lift it.
These eight flower panels all seem to be hand carved each one is slightly different from the other.
Now I have to decide what colour to paint it. I would love to be bold and have a bright red front door as the one below but don’t think I am that brave. Maybe a soft grey or even just a fresh coat of cream or white. I have lots of black trim around my windows so maybe even a satin black with the flowers all slightly sanded. What do you all think?

What a beauty Sandi!I'm gonna let you pick the color…I just gotta warm you I have a black door and it's a pain to keep clean, I had it professionally repainted last year and it still shows up every mark! But that could just be my door! It looks great from a distance but it's just when you get close up:-)

Wow, I love that door and it is definitely a bargain.

Thank heavens that someone had the smarts to take it into a second hand store.

My door currently is a burgundy color. While I think I might be ready for a change in color myself and leaning towards black I'm not sure that I'm ready to commit to it just yet.

Good luck can't wait to see what color you choose.

Sandy…..Without seeing the whole front of your house, I am not sure what color I would paint it. I love the door though! Beautiful carving on it and sounds like it is well made! I know you will make the right decision!~Hugs, Patti

    Wow! That is some door!
So intricate….it should be fun trying to decide what colour to paint it. I have a black door which we had painted at a car-paint repair shop..and I really liked the results. It compliments our black shutters and brick.
But Im sure whatever colour you choose it'll be great!
Your Dad is very thoughtful and has great taste. What a great find that is!!
    Have fun!!

GREAT door & what a sweet dad! I painted my front door the bold red and loved it for several years. Then I changed the color scheme for the outside- taupe white, bright white trim and a navy black accent. I painted the window boxes (handmade courtesy of my own sweet dad!) and my front door in the navy black. It is gorgeous and I love it! I just recently blogged about it and posted a pic if you want to see if it would work for you. Anyway, LOVE the flowers! Can't wait to see what you decide!

What a great find Sandy! I love it when my parents do the same thing & find goodies for me….and my dad is the king of bargaining, so he usually gets things cheaper. Whoo hoo for us!
I love a good solid door & agree it does make a big statement on the front of a home. I remember saying to Katrina to get the doors she really wanted when they were building. And they look fab, as will your door when it's painted & hung, whatever colour you decide.

Hi Sandy, I am thinking black! Especially since your windows are a black trim… It will tie it all together very nicely. Can't wait to see, so please post it! 😉

Happy belated birthday! Hope you had a great day. That door is just gorgeous! As your trims are black it would look great in a gray or charcoal, but whatever you do make sure those beautiful flowers stand out – their detail is wonderful. Can't believe the door was only $30 what a bargain! Have a great weekend. Michelle

I love the idea of painting it a grey or charcoal color. It would look fab with your black trim, but not as mentioned previously demand the upkeep a black door requires. Can't wait to see what you'll choose.

What a beautiful door! I think the lovely details would be lost if you painted it black. I would stick with a color that was light or maybe a French blue or red. I adore red doors and red would look amazing with the black trim.

Hi! What did you end up doing with your door? I have the exact same door and I painted it white, but it still needs a little something. Would love to know what you decided.

I've spent all night going through your blog. It's great!
