Whilst shopping around the local market yesterday I found this gorgeous blue depression glass jewlery box (think thats what it is) anyway not every day you see something so beautiful for so little money. I could not wait to get this beauty home.
Back to the water leak: assessor going to mum and dads today to ascertain what is under insurance. The plaster downstairs has all bubbled and the cornice is a total mess. Lucky we were there and shut the water off before it did any major damage to their furniture.
Have a good week everyone.
We decided to take off for the weekend considering my husband and I had the day off work yesterday we packed the kids up and headed off to Bargara to my parents for the weekend. I was excited to see my mums new kitchen which is still to be grouted but its coming along nicely. This little beach cottage is going to be lovely once is all finished. We were sound asleep last night and I heard this driping noise. I got up as I thought it was raining only to discover that the roof was leaking. When I turned on the lights the house was flooding and water pouring in from everywhere. Woke everyone up, Dad turned the water off at the mains and we began the clean up. Plumber here this morning only to discover a burst water main. So lucky we were here as mum and dad sleep upstairs and they would not have realised the downstairs was flooding. Oh the joys. Will get back to enjoying my weekend at the beach.
I picked this coffee table up on the weekend and really walked past it about 3 times before I thought how nice it would look painted. It was originally a dark timber as I can see underneath but someone had painted it a terrible salmon colour. It's as solid as a rock and the old man I purchased it from said it was a very old piece. So it got painted yesterday and I just love it. Thought the shape was very unusual and all my books now have a new home - well for this week anyway.
www.theoldpaintedcottage.com Good morning bloggers cannot believe how quick the weekends go by and we are facing Monday morning already. Jennifer at the Old Painted Cottage is having her reveal party tomorrow morning to show us all what she has been doing these last few months "renovating their new cottage". We have all been dying to check it out and from what I can gather its going to be different from her shabby chic style. Funny isn't it as I have been a pink girls myself for many many years and can slowly see other colours creeping into my home. I am embracing clean lines and not so many roses. Doesn't mean I still don't love the look but are leaning towards less is more and just keeping my favourite pieces and moving the rest on. Hence some of my finds lately are going to be left as is and not given the white paint treatment. I think you know when you want something white and when you want to appreciate the beautiful timber. I also believe that mixing old with new is a great way to decorate.
How beautiful is this pine dressing table that I picked up at the markets this morning for a bargain. Not a scratch or fault about it just a beautiful piece. Think this will be nice left un-painted.

Hi everyone hope your all having a lovely weekend. The weather is quite warm today so I decided instead of painting I would re-cover one of my many vintage lamp shades. I have been inspired with all the pink and white stripes lately especially over at Black & Spiro. So here it is quite cute just have to find a new place for it around the house now.
Forgot the before shot but picked up this cute little corner cabinet at the market this morning. Didn't waste any time with this beautiful weather of ours and gave it the white treatment today. Took this photo of the cupboard at the front door as not sure if this will be a keeper or I will move this piece on. I get many questions asking what I do with all this furniture the answer is I do sell most of it. I keep the pieces I really love until I find something I like better then I can move then on. I sell the majority of my pieces to a lovely shop in Brisbane.
Picked up this lovely dining table with turned legs recently and gave it the white paint treatment and roughed it up with the sander. I just love these tables. Check out my table cloth that I got at the thrift store this week very Cath Kidston i thought bargain.
I thought I would post about this old window panel that i found at my local salvage yard for no more that $20 i think at the time. Just wish I had of taken a before shot of it when it was blue & yellow. There were numerous windows there all the same but this was in much better condition with the mirrors all in perfect condition. A quick coat of white paint and presto. You can have the shutters open or closed and I think it makes a great piece to place anywhere in the home. I often see the old french door windows & doors and think they would mke up a lovely coffee table or wall display. I will have to try that next time.
Thought I would share this lovely chest of drawers that I thrifted today. Pull missing on one of the drawers but thats easily replaced I guess. Quite cute I thought.
