Painting Preferences

Firstly just wanted to say thanks for all the comments on my furniture. I get many of you asking if I hand paint or spray. Lets just say that I did try the spray thing once and it was not ideal. I set up a section at the side of my old house where I had a booth style set up, lots of drop sheets around and I could spray until my heart desired. Hard part was the maintenance on the spray gun. You continually got blockages, hard to just chop and change colours and washing the thing was a pain as paint would get stuck in the machine. What seemed like a good idea to me was really a waste of time. I did think it was great for outdoor pieces though and just a once off thing. There maybe a fantastic spraygun out there (let me know) but I think you would have to spend quite a bit on a good spraygun to get good results. I stick to the paint brush and always buy an expensive one so you have less brissles falling off. Nothing worse than a cheap brush and you have to pick out the brissles in your new paint job.
In regards to paint - best to find the brand and the colour that suits your pieces best this can sometimes be trial & error but use a good quality paint (Dulux or similiar) and finish off with a sealer that protects your pieces. I recommend Porters All purposes sealer in clear finish which gives your pieces more durability. Happy painting xxxx

Thanks for your paiting tips Sandy. I am on a painting mission at the moment....after visiting Mandii in Victoria & seeing her gorgeous house I am now inspired to start painting some of the bigger pieces of furniture that I have been putting off. Now that you have said that the good ole paint brush is better that spraying I am now convinced to give it a go.

Thanks for that Sandy. I was going to fork out $ for a spray gun but think I'll take your advice and stick with a good quality brush. I'm too lazy to spend time cleaning out a sprayer thoroughly so I imagine it wouldn't be long before mine got clogged up!
You get onto your projects so fast, it always impresses me.

Hi Sandy, I thought I must have been the only one out there that felt that way about spray guns.My husband thinks I am nuts to hand paint. Although I do like cans for small metal paint jobs. Excellent advice about the brush, cheers Katherine

Hi Sandy,
I discovered your by a link at Fitty's pink Rose Cottage and 'm so glad I did.
I love your blog and I truly appreciate your painting tips today. I normally brush-paint my shabby chic projects, too. May take longer but the final result is way better.
I love shabby chic, vintage, and nordic home decor. I adore all that is floral and have a special thing for roses. I like antiques, laces and old linens, old tea sets, antique copper pots and pans, and , in brief, all that is pretty.
Come and visit my blog at http://ritashabbychicrose.blogspot.com/
Hope you will enjoy the visit and BTW, don't forget to let me know you've been there by dropping a line or two.
With warm wishes from Italy
