Ideas Appreciated

Morning bloggers. I posted about this dining suite I picked up a few months ago and can you believe I haven’t painted it yet. I am really stuck on a suitable fabric to re-upholster the chairs with. One minute I go for a duck egg blue and then I love the plain linen look and then I see Anna Spiro’s blog and all this colour I am really stuck at the moment. The white frilly chair covers are great because they go straight in the wash and come up like new so I need a fabric that is not too light in colour as the kids sit as this table every day. Appreciate your ideas and thoughts.

Your table and chair set is just so pretty. I loved it the first time you showed it and I think I love it even more now.

I see this table in a creamy white with the blue. Anxious to see where you go with this.

Oh my gosh, I can't wait to see that gorgeous table and chairs painted! I'm just about done painting my kitchen table and chairs, but there is no fabric on my chairs. I like your little white slipcovers and I know how nice it is to be able to pop something in the wash. So, maybe go with a fabric that you can still put those white slipcovers on for practical purposes and have it still match! Good luck…

Hi Sandy, thanks for checking out my blog. I think I have found a kindred spirit! I too, love painting furniture, mirrors, you name it…a paintbrush is never far from my hand! Was excited to hear you are on the Gold Coast too. None of my friends here share my passion for home decorating.
I, like you, have a set of dining chairs that I got on ebay that I am in a quandry over as to what fabric to use (white paint is a given!) as it will need to be family friendly. Do you do the upholstering yourself like I do? Sure saves $$$ Good luck choosing, I'm sure they will be fabulous.

    Sandy,

I think I like it better untouched but with new upholstery fabric. I fell in love with your dining set as soon as I saw it posted. White is nice, but somethings are better left untouched. But whatever you decide, I know it'll be a beauty. Can't wait to see the results!!

    Toodles.

My opinion, for what its worth would be to upholster in a plain linen (I think we tire less quickly of plains than prints)in a colour that you love but have plain white slipcovers like you have as well as one for the top/back of the chair. That way you could have 3 looks – the upholstered colour (be it pale eau de nil/duck egg blue…)then the slip cover for the seat with the frill as another look as well as the two piece slip cover for everyday use or look number 3!
The frilled slip covers would also look fabulous with a full skirt slip cover for the table too (if you are that handy) when you have a special occasion. It is a lovely set. That is probably what I would do if it were my dilemma.
Good luck with whatever you choose to do 🙂

    Hi Sandy,
I too am in love with just about all things in duck egg blue or some shade of turquoise. I am also loving paisley pattens at the moment too. I'm sure whatever you choose it will turn out beautifully.

I say do what your heart tells you—but it is telling you too many things! Ha! I like one of the comments above that gives you change-out options. Also if you go with something neutral it gives you lots of opportunities for different table top designs–different table cloths and different accessories and different dishes. I find with some of my upolstered chairs that I get frustrated because the colors or designs limit what you can do in a room… ps. Love the table and chairs–nice bones as they say!

    Hi Sandy!
My name is Marina and I love your blog. I live over the northside of brisbane, it's nice to find someone in blogland that lives near brissy too!
SO here's my two cents worth…gorgeous dining set … as someone else said above, beautiful bones 🙂
Because the base colour of your home is white, I would paint the setting white … and reupholster in white linen… it just never dates. But make a few different slip covers in the duck egg blue, the brighter colours and the neutral colours… so then you can swap and change as your mood desires. Actually I've just reread the posts and Irene has said much the same thing 🙂 Oops!
Can't wait to see the finished result!
    Kindest Wishes
    Marina
