Well I finally got this beauty home on Friday and for now it is living in my garage until I can work up the energy to paint this beauty. I have been told that the timber is jarrah but really that doesn’t make much difference to me as I know she will look divine white – what do you think ladies paint her?

Hi, I found your blog recently and am loving it. To paint or not to paint is an often asked question of mine, I say go for it

Go for it… white of course or do you have another color in mind? Either way, that is quite a substantial piece. Lets see the inside please!! 🙂

Paint…and oh my,that thing is HUGE! What is inside? TV or clothing type? I’ve got one at the office in our shop bay that I’ll be working on a bit next week.My boss is out of town, not much to do for me,so I’ll be out there dusting and cleaning and the priming.Figuring out HOW to fix that door or maybe just remove both doors and use baskets at the bottom for storage. We’ll see.

This wardrobe is huge girls. Inside has two large shelves and would be perfect for linens or clothing. For now it has lots of games and would you believe I have put two chandeliers in there. My daughter had her 12th birthday party in the garage last night so it hid lots of breakables that were on the garage floor. Its over 2m high so will have to be extra pumped to paint. Will be white of course. Sandy x

She is a beauty! I think she would look amazing white but she looks amazing now – and Jarrah – a beautiful timber. If you can bring yourself to do it, do it! Can’t wait to see what she looks like after her transformation.

Oh Sandy, You are so funny- it doesn’t make a difference what kind of wood. I’m with you 100%. I remember I was at a yard sale and the couple had a tall dresser for sale, and I told her the piece would look good in white. She then replied oh no I wouldn’t sell this to you if you were going to paint it. Come on Lady what the heck would you care if I painted or not. I didn’t say that- I just thought that. Some people are so hooked on wood it isn’t funny. With all that said I just want to mention how stunning the armoire is with all the beautiful details. And you know what I can’t wait to see this painted white. Then you can sell it to me… This is surely a beauty!!

Wishing you all the best today-

    ******* STAND BACK!!!!!! … and P*U*T D*O*W*N THAT P*A*I*N*T B*R*U*S*H~~~ PLEEEEAAASSSSSSEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!*****

May I say right up front I am NOT "one of those" AGAINST painting ~~~ ANYTHING!!! HONEST!!! Having SAID that tho, THIS PARTICULAR PIECE A*P*P*E*A*R*S to be ONE PIECE that should N*O*T be painted~~~ Of course, that's IMHO!!!! My heavens, it LOOKS like it's old & has a terriffic PATINA!!!

IF IT IS NEW, sure, I say go ahead and paint… I mean, it's YOUR piece ANYWAY, but once again, if this IS old, please re-think, ok????

Warmest wishes & BTW, just "found" your blog~~~ it's FABTASTIC and now on my FAVS!!!

    Thanks,

In my humble opinion, paint it, it looks like a repro Indonesian type mahogany piece to me…I have a chiffonaire that is very similar, I painted it white (is there another colour??) and it looks fantastic. I wonder why I ever wanted it mahogany. Thankfully I saw the light 😉

I believe this is the most beautiful armoire I have ever seen. I can see why you want to paint it if all these pictures are of your home because most everything is white. I know you will probably paint it anyway and it will be beautiful if you do. However, I collect antiques and have to say to leave it as is. It is awesome.

I so agree with you when you said, "It really doesn't matter what kind of wood…" because I am the same way, it doesn't matter because we are going to paint over it anyway! So what's the big deal if it is Tiger Oak, Jarrah, Heart Pine or what…. It is so much lovlier when it is covered in layers and layers of paint. Take care. Tootle loo for now.
